However upon closer examination the flaws in design, material selection and inexperience becoming glaringly obvious. Auffrance has over fifty years of design & manufacturing expertise specializing specifically in the art of Architectural & Boiserie Paneling, period mantels & reproduction furniture. That is what we do and what we are. We have worked extensively in the period styles of Rococo, Louis XV, Louis XVI, Directoire, Georgian, Sheridan, American Federal & Tudor. Our years of expereience in both the design, manufacturing & installation advert costly misktakes and undesiereable substandard resuts. To ensure the utmost in quality & perfection requires years of experience in each of three critical phases: Design, Craftsmenship & Materials, Hand Finishing

The Design Process begins with an indepth conversation with each client. Concept sketches are made & ideas are generated. Our design team overcomes the inherant flaws in most floor plans inorder to create a visually appealing, proportionate & asethically pleasing design. Once a quote is given and a 20% deposit is received, we begin the laborious process of site measurements and meticulous hand generated drawings. A three dimensional scale model is created for our internal review in order to identify any inconsistancies in proportion, design or symetry. A fifty percent deposit is taken and the magic of production begins. If the design is inferior, no matter the workmanship & finshing the overall product will suffer.

The Art of Craftsmanship ensures that each detail in the manufacturing process is executed with perfect artisitic skill & precision. Once the design has been finalized a cross section of the entire room is re-drawn in full scale at our shop with hand rendered full scale details of each hand carving & curve to ensure proper scale & astethic beauty. All woods are hand selected for superior grain, color, sequencing & patternation. All curves and hand carvings are brought to life in the hands of our classically trained master carvers with close attention that each flower, ornament and scroll breath the beauty of life in their delicatacy & grace. Our highly skilled third and fourth generation cabinet makers imploy the same time honored techniques of construction, mortising each joint & fitting each moving part individually. Installing in raw wood, allows for a perfect fit and the correction of any site inconsistances. If nessisary a field hand carver is sent to tweek any imperfection. Even the most beautiful design can be compromised by unskilled craftsmenship.

Our Hand Finishing involves several hand-applied, labor intensive steps that can not be rushed or skipped. After an initial sanding, a skilled finishing sander hand smoothes out any slight imperfections in the natural wood. If distressing is required a series of irregular but precise gauging and nicking is exacted by hand to achieve a centuries old look of abuse. Skilled sanding is again required and the color foundation is artistically mixed from raw pigments to achieve limitless color possibilities. Subsequent steps of sealing, sanding & hand glazing are alternated with lacquer to build up depth of color & body. Shading, trim color or gold is applied antiqued & protected. A final waxing is compounded in by hand to bring out the depth and clarity of the natural wood grain. The final finishing process can either enhance or destroy a room. Even with the best design, best selection of materials and master craftsmenship, a muddy or lifeless finish will ruin any room & negate the entire process.
